As a former Vice President of Training and Quality Operations for a mid-size corporation, and having spent a career working for customer-oriented companies like Xerox and American Airlines, I can be an extremely difficult customer to please. My wife and I are passengers aboard the Crystal Symphony and we docked in Honolulu yesterday morning. This was our second port after cruising from L.A.. We took the cruise recommended bus tour on Maui, our first port, and were very disappointed. So, when we reached Honolulu, I searched the Web for a good private tour company. We got very lucky and picked Koa Lani, owned an operated by William Marano. We asked for a two hour tour, and we found him very knowledgeable, friendly, and interesting. I asked him to pretend that we were his "parents" who were visiting Honolulu for the first time and show us what he thought they would most enjoy. That's exactly what he did. In 2008 I was lucky enough to travel to beautiful Honolulu. As a first time visitor I wanted to see everything. Staying on Waikiki was beautiful but limited as to traveling around the island. Driving a rental car was more of a headache than a tour. The traffic was metropolitan and not knowing what was where was frustrating.

My husband arranged for our party to take a tour, and this is how we met Wil. Wil made our visit to Hawaii the trip of a lifetime it was intended to be. He took us all around Oahu and explained the history of the island and he made the history interesting. He was so helpful and fun. He found us beautiful vistas and delicious food. The best shrimp I ever had was at a tiny roadside stand that Wil knew of. His time was ours and we squeezed every minute out of it that we could.

By the end of the day Wil wasn't just our driver, he was our friend.
